The Sobo, Katamuki, and Okue Range, known for its steep mountainous terrain and magnificent ridgeline, consists of the complex geology of undulating rocky peaks, cliffs, and numerous gorges running through the valleys. Its unique landscape, which changes its appearance from time to time, fascinates visitors.
There is a wide range of vegetation that live in warm to cold climates depending on the mountain's height in the Sobo, Katamuki, and Okue Range, where many high-altitude natural forests exist. In the limited area on this precious land, rare animals and plants are inhabiting, such as the Japanese serow, a unique biological protected species, and the "Sohayaki element*" plant, representing the origin of the Japanese archipelago. As many rare animals and plants are at risk of extinction, the rangeland environment must be conserved with care.
*Sohayaki element: A species endemic to Japan commonly found in the mountainous areas of Kii, Shikoku, and Kyushu, which have made the land among the Japanese archipelago.
